How do solar panels work?

Solar cells are located in a solar panel. These solar cells consist of 2 layers between which current is generated as soon as light shines on it. However, the current is not yet directly applicable. A direct current is generated, but we need alternating current in our house. That is why another inverter is needed that converts the direct current to alternating current, which is then connected to the meter cupboard. There are a number of different panels: Polycrystalline, Monocrystalline and Thin film solar panels.

  1. Polycrystalline
    In the case of polycrystalline solar panels, the solar cells are made of silicon. After a heating process, the cells are cooled and then intermesh in different directions. That is why it is called so-called polycrystalline. These are characterized by the blue color. Over time, the color becomes slightly lighter.
  2. Monocrystalline
    Monocrystalline solar panels are also made of silicon. Only after heating the cooling process takes place evenly so that the cells are all neatly in one direction. That is why this is called monocrystalline. The cells have a nice black color. In terms of yield, monocrystalline types hardly differ from polycrystalline types. Monocrystalline solar panels are usually slightly more expensive, but have a nicer appearance.
  3. Thin film
    Thin film solar panels use a completely different technique. As a result, much less scarce raw materials are necessary. The popularity of the thin film variant is decreasing slightly. This is mainly due to the fact that more surface area is needed than crystalline variants. On the other hand, thin film solar panels are nice to see. They are beautiful black, especially with a black frame.
